Prep work

These construction days seem to wax and wane, first I have a day where I didn't feel effective at all, like nothing got done, then there is a productive day when things pop up on the trailer. Even though we both worked a lot today, it doesn't look like much happened. In fact I don't even have an updated photo of the camper because it looks the same.

But today was a good prep day. Evan drew out some pieces for me to cut, the most complex outside skin pieces. All that measuring takes a long time. But I am getting pretty good at making long curves with the jigsaw!

This is what Evan gives me

Back at the computer!

Tools of the trade.
I also went shopping at Lowe's, always an interesting ordeal. Kelly came with me and she got fun gardening stuff. I however just got an assortment of two by fours and plywood. Lowe's shopping is not always a consistent experience. Some days you are helped by very nice and knowledgeable employees, then there are days like today when you're waiting in line and a manager walks by and notices the cashier just left with a customer standing right there. Then he comments "Does Becky ever wear her vest?" The last time we were there the cashier was very excited that our total came up to $359.00. She said "Good job!" as if we were trying to hit a round dollar amount. Then she complained to us "Jack is always complaining, he's one of the youngest ones working here but he got injured and now he just complains". They were hiring today, it sounds as if they need some quality employees!

I think we now have good supplies, and a good plan and tomorrow we can make some physical progress! Stay tuned!

Building a bed

We start to go vertical! I was right, the lessons we learned helped the next day go much faster, plus hours of Evan behind the computer turn into very detailed plans with precise measurements to help the building happen quickly.
This is a bed support/under bed storage divider. And cool clamps while the wood glue dries.

Evan likes using his Japanese saw.

Lots of fun sawdust art. Less fun when it gets right up in your eyes.

Pretty angles.
A note about ear plugs. Since we are doing so much sawing, I just keep my ear plugs in most of the day, even when it seems unimportant like when I'm cutting insulation. After wearing them so much, when I do take them out, things sound so obnoxiously loud! Like the squeak of the knife blade on the insulation for instance. But also neighborhood work noises. I admit it is incredible how quickly the grass is growing around here right now, but the constant sound of lawn mowing! I might just keep ear plugs in until I get this trailer into the back country of Montana.

Insulation! I do a very thorough job with the insulation, I have experienced those early summer Montana  nights and I don't want a little leak letting that cold air in!

Putting all those clamps to use.

A bed! Or at least most of it. But also part of the wall, so that's good!

Evan is showing how comfortable my trailer is! Except that back wall piece is the  highest point, and with the rest of the depth of the wall added in it will be almost two inches shorter. So very comfortable back seat for all of us short people!
