Evan and I both have a little bit of construction experience, he more that I. These last few days there have been a lot of "well, lesson learned".
| We so lovingly coated the camper floor with polyurethane, cleaning it with mineral spirits after we sanded between coats. |
I can't say that I loved how the polyurethane finishes turned out, one of those things that we only sort of knew how to do. I followed the direction of the package which advised the use of a foam brush, then read an article from Fine Woodworking which also advocated for a foam brush, but I want to blame the streakiness on the foam brush nonetheless. The Fine Woodworking article also said I should mix the polyurethane with mineral spirits to thin it out, and not to brush it too thin. Well, lesson learned!
| I skeptical of this brush... |
| Ta-da! A floor! |
| Evan is back to designing and figuring out all the pieces. |
| Meanwhile I make some templates of the wall curves so we can make cabinetry and a bed that goes all the way to the edge of the wall, once the wall is there! |
| Already putting those templates to good use, this rib is going in the back wall as part of the wall/bed structure. |
| This is the surface for the part of the bed that doesn't fold up, the right side that has the curve is a shelf that will extend around the back of the camper. |
| Another lesson! Last time I used the jigsaw to cut this wood I had it flipped over, apparently when it is the "nice" side up, it rips the edge a little too much. Evan assures me he can clean it up with a hand held router. |
| Now to do some drilling... oh so many lessons learned... |
| I kept stripping the screw heads, I also broke a drill bit, and accidentally split pieces of 2'' by 2''. Kelly came by at the end of the day and put me right on some of the things I was doing wrong. Lessons. Learned. |
| I think Evan wanted some hands on action after all that computer time. |
| Evan has plans and pieces for me to make tomorrow morning! Sorry I don't know how to rotate the photos, you'll just have to tilt your head to look at these! |
Hopefully the lessons of today will become a more efficient tomorrow!
