Collecting materials

Today was all about collecting materials, especially for the base of the camper. I woke up thinking we might start construction on the camper base... but things never go as smoothly as planned right? Much of our day was taken up with driving back and forth.

First we went to my parent's house to use a little of the excess wood from my father who is a  carpenter and house builder (and many other things less relevant to the hoarding of vast amounts of boards).

This is just one side of the barn of wood, we were pretty excited to get some great pieces of lumber. Now for some brick, sheep and wheat...

Ok, how much do we actually need?

Cut it down to size.

Rip it to the proper width.

We had an expert hand from my sister who had some of her own planing to do.

My dad has a LOT of rough cut walnut from his carpentry days. He says that even his grandchildren won't be able to use it  all. I'll help out with this piece.

So pretty after we planed it!

Now, you might be saying to yourself, it looks like it is all going so smoothly, especially that piece of walnut...what are those hold-ups that they were referring to at the beginning of this blog? Well, the first one came when Kelly checked for our parent's house key that she stuck in her pocket before she planed a bunch of boards. It took a lot of retracing steps and digging in sawdust, but Kelly finally found the key! She added a key chain to it so that next time it will be harder to lose.

Needle in a haystack? Try a key in a sawdust pile.
After we got back to Columbus we took a little lunch break then decided to get the rest of the supplies that we needed for the base. I thought we should wait until Kelly got back from soccer practice so we could use her van, but Evan was convinced the plywood would fit in the Subaru once it was cut down to the proper length. He measured and everything! Well, the plywood was about an inch too wide. So he got to call Kelly to see if she could come rescue us while I did the grocery shopping.

Evan sadly waited outside Lowe's for probably an hour. Luckily Dan and Kelly came to the rescue in their van.

Evan and I cooked dinner to thank Kelly and Dan. Luckily we got to end the evening on a good note.
