Why make a camper trailer? Why not buy one? Is it really worth it? These are all questions that I've asked myself, and I've had others ask me. So, why? Well, I want a unique product, that isn't really out there for my budget. For the last few summers I've lived in Montana, living mostly out of my car and in my tent. This year I would like to be even more independent than last year, and have all the amenities so I won't have to wimp out on stormy nights, or take showers at someone's house. I'm pretty happy with my Subaru, so I didn't want to sell it and live out of a newly bought van or truck. Plus I don't want it to be super obvious to people that I am living out of my vehicle when I am in town. So small camper is the way to go.
Small Size: As mentioned earlier, I need my Subaru to pull my camper, so it needs to be small and light. Less than 2000 lbs in fact.
Durable: This camper will be driven out to Montana, and over bumpy, rocky roads. It will face wind, sun, and very possibly hail storms. The nights get cold, the days hot. And BEARS!
Shower: An important element that I didn't have the last two summers outside of friends' homes.
Bed: Soft. Ok, not that important to Kristy, but it is to Evan. Also, the bed needs to be able to fit Kristy all the time, and Evan some of the time.
Kitchen: Counter space is important, a sink, some storage space (for cooking gear, I am wary of leaving foods in the camper, it will be mostly kept in my car, remember the bears?). A counter space that can withstand a fiery stove. Trash can.
Storage: Backpacking gear, hiking gear. Clothes. Some hanging space for wet clothes. Ukulele. A few books, pencils, journal. A little climbing gear.
Stinky clothes storage: I run a little everyday, so I need a little space for my running outfit so that it won't infect my other [clearly lovely smelling] clothes.
Standing space
Exposure to the outdoors: I want nice integration between my shelter and the beautiful places where I will be staying.
Can we do it? Stay tuned!
Is anyone else amused that the "Report Abuse" link falls right under the gallery of injuries? Just me?
ReplyDeleteHaha that IS hilarious. At least they are equally abusive to each other.
ReplyDeleteOur camper isn't abusive!! But yes we noticed that too, we decided to keep it there to see if anyone else wanted a chuckle.
